DIGITALIZING LEARNING FOR FUTURE RELEVANCE

BACKGROUND

It is fast becoming a conventional notion that the world as we know it today, is changing at an unprecedented pace and in the most redefining manner. There is a need for relevant stakeholders to promptly create learning platforms for sustainable processes through digital technologies. Beyond the stereotype of pedagogical practices enhancement, and educational deliveries, we must learn to collaboratively leverage on technology-rush as the 21st century tool for reshaping social cultures and lifestyles, securing the future of work, as well as encouraging youths development through digital skills development for Africa‘s economic standpoint in the imminent technological revolution .

Due to the government inconsistency in ensuring that quality education (UN SD4) is strongly prioritized, provided and sustained for early learners, Nigeria now stands as the capital of poverty and future insecurity, as a result of the ever increasing 18.4 million out of school children - which is about 7.32% of the total out of the school children in the world. It is gradually becoming an unrealistic challenge to resolve due to economic disadvantages, cultural mindsets, religious perceptions and increased poverty rates which has limited most parents’ ability to provide for their children’s basic needs. It is also worthy of note that both the government and global organizations seems to playing down on the need to create a prompt and feasible design in a bid to resolve this issue. Hence, the need for the proposition of this quick, culture-friendly and virtual learning solution. This design is aimed at resolving the out of school children issue through digital learning - beyond the four walls of physical classrooms.

MOTIVATION i

Another primary drive for the inception of this social development project is the need to curtail the menace of social crimes (terrorism, banditry, cyber fraud, cyber bullying, thuggery, etc) mostly linked to the youth-based audience. This is mostly fueled by the unresolved unemployment rate, social pressures, as well as the inability to keep up with the ever increasing standard of living. These socio-economic deviations are a direct reflection of our weak nation’s political systems so far - as all of these social misdeeds could have been avoided through constant youth orientation programs, future relevant skills development and consistent support provided for entrepreneurial progress. To end with, I am of a school of thought that the progress of Nigeria’s socio-economic and political structures is directly linked to her youth development through future skills for global relevance.

PROBLEM I:

YOUTH UNDER-DEVELOPMENT

In Nigeria, the failure of the government to ensure the provision and sustainability of quality education to early learners has metamorphosed into an increasing 18.4 million out of school children in Nigeria. It is gradually becoming an unrealistic challenge to resolve due to economic inconsistencies, cultural mindsets, religious perceptions and increased poverty rates which has limited most parents’ ability to provide for their children’s basic needs.

The need to create a quick and sustainable culturally acceptable solution to this challenge is the fundamental reason for the proposition of this digitalized learning platforms beyond the four walls of physical classrooms. Until now, we have researches been researched and highlighted the limitations of the current conventional education practices, and we are prepared to create a workable digital learning space with strong focus on future relevant skillsets in its curriculum design.

To end with, this project is primarily designed to ensure the blockage of all loopholes systematically fueling the increasing poverty and crimes rate in Nigeria. It is noteworthy that about 70% of the country’s population is youth-based; hence the need to prioritize both children and youths development through culture-sensitive digital learning platforms and digital skills development, will completely annihilate the menace of the socially sponsored crimes and insurrections (especially in a multi cultural and religious setting like Nigeria.
